“Digital Paths of Kalabaka” at the 56th Panhellenic Journalistic Conference

Presentation of the honorary plaque

On November 01, 2026, the 2nd Junior High School of Kalabaka took part in the 56th Panhellenic Journalistic Conference of the Union of Provincial Press Journalists. The school presented the educational project “Digital Paths of Kalabaka: From Yesterday to Today, Guided by Artificial Intelligence”, carried out during the 2025–2026 school year under the supervision of philologist Spyridon Vlioras.

The presentation was delivered by pupils Makarios Papageorgiou and Elisavet Sgara. Deputy head teacher Fani Apostolina received an honorary plaque for the school’s participation, while teacher Smaro Naki also attended the event.

Working in groups, the pupils researched Kalabaka’s history through books, libraries, online sources and visits to local monuments. Their subjects included small historic churches, the ancient inscription honouring Septimius Severus and Caracalla, the Konstantios School, the Church of the Dormition, the mansion of Giannakis Kalabakas and monuments to important local figures.

They used tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini to help with language, organisation and technical matters, while verifying the information against reliable sources. The project taught them that a convincing digital answer cannot replace critical judgement and knowledge of the place being studied.

Their research was brought together in a custom interactive map, accompanied by texts about each monument. The project connects local history, documented information and digital media, showing how cultural heritage can support both education and local development.
